Maltodextrin Drink Flavoring

I usually use just a mixture of water and maltodextrin when training or racing and it's a pretty boring taste. I've tried all sorts of things to give it a slight flavor and until now haven't found anything I liked. That's changed. I found that if I make unsweetened iced tea using Twining's Lady Grey tea and then combine it in a 50% iced tea and %50 water mixture with the maltodextrin, it's a very pleasant, light taste and a really good smell, to boot. Also, it adds some caffeine into the mixture.

    Thanks for sharing this, LBJ! Sounds tasty.

    What do other folks like to flavor their malto with? Personally I like apple juice with a splash of cranberry.

    These things are great if you are travelling to a swim and don't want to risk looking for your favourate flavour when you get there. :-)

    Yes, that's why the Twining's Lady Grey - no sugar or anything else sweet, but it's very nice, indeed.

    @dc_in_SF - That Coola Lime stuff looks radioactive.

    @Lynne and @Leonard_Jansen - It may look like something dreamed up by a mad scientist but it is most delicious! :) (The red version is also not bad)

    While I have only ever used it for one race, I really love Country Time Pink Lemonade.

    We'll see if I still love it after SCAR in a few weeks

    Has anyone tried hot chocolate mix with malto/unflavored endurance powder? I thought it might help me with salt mouth.

    No, but I find Cocoa Delite UCan does exactly that! Must taste about the same, Sarah.

    Strangely, I do find that “salty” flavors of feed help with salt mouth more than sweet flavors. Sarah, I’m also in Vegas always looking for people to OWS with to push my training. DM me if you ever need another training partner.

    @boobooaboo That's interesting, any theories on why that might be?

    I use pretty much purely apple juice for the fructose

    @LakeBagger

    no, not really. It could just be personal preference. I Have always preferred more salty feeds than sweet. The sweet mixed with salt mouth is intense. Really, I like to take plain water first to rinse out, and then feed.
