    This seems nearly superhuman.

Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought be down upon my knees

Whole new perspective now. All I can say is Holy Jesus.

We're all just carbon, water, starlight, oxygen and dreams

  • Good luck swimmers and crew! Have an amazing time and be sure to take in the city lights at night!!

I keep waiting for Mo's signal to come back on line. Sadly, it does not appear that it will. Looks like they all struggled a bit to get into the Harlem. Anyone know the story on Mo?

Didn't Marcos Diaz do a double 10 years ago or so?

Looks like everyone is close together. By design to stay strong as a group, or just a coincidence? Hang tough.

Still swimming against the current in the Harlem. Swimmers are making slow progress creeping along the Manhattan sea wall.
Caught a couple of hours sleep.... sort of

This is a loud and noisy city.

The video of Diaz swimming was take a few days before the swim. He did 1) wear a wetsuit on his swim; 2) he did sit on a dock at Gov Isl and also on a bridge stanchion in the Harlem River for rest, and 3) he did claim in the press it was a record (though he was repeatedly advised not to). Probably the only record that day was the 2k+ people who were waiting for him at the finish and the 100's of fans who literally shut down the Harlem river drive as he slowly made his way against the current on the second lap.
Marcos was probably the fastest swimmer from a pure speed standpoint to attempt such a swim, but he had serious aversion to cold water. His home country funded the swim and when he returned to the DR, he was honored with a huge parade and a meeting with the country's leader.
Fantastic athletic challenge - even if it was not a continuous swim or a non-wet suit swim etc, etc

  • Congratulations to the NYOW team for pulling this off. It is a major undertaking that few can imagine. There is easily another 2 1/2 hrs that can be shaved off the documented fastest time around the island, so i bet there will be a lot of demand in the future for such attempts. Dave and Rondi better rest up :)

Just so full of admiration! Even one lap around Manhattan is still out of my wheelhouse. Two is amazing!
