Hawaii native Kawika Singson looks right at home swimming next to the lava zone on Hawaii's Big Island.

Umm...wow.
My mother in law probably thinks I do stupid stuff like this.
Nah...
I think I'll pass on this one, thanks! I like challenges... not ready for suicide.
Even Forrest Gump said 'Stupid is what Stupid does.'
ah jesus he isn't even wearing a swimcap! and with those fins on it won't even be accepted as a swim as per the proper "rules"! Not sure either about the walking half way thru the swim..
maybe he is swimming the length of the Atlantic at one spot - and he needs the heat to stay in for long!
Is there a fundraising page I can send money to?
Matthew Webb swimming the Niagra river is the ultimate WTF swim.
He started to read his own PR.
The ultimate wild swim? This weekend I came across an extraordinary sportsman, who it is claimed, in his Alpine Journal obituary (last paragraph p394) swam the Niagara rapids twice:

After a quick google I haven't found much detail on others who have tried this swim. I wonder what inspired Grenfell to attempt the swim in the first place. Did he do it before Webb or did the challenge arise with succeeding where Webb sadly failed?
"He twice swam Niagara, crossing the pool just below the falls in the supposedly calm water between the thundering, falls and the undertow."
It's been a while since I've been to Niagara Falls, but there is a decent distance between the base of the falls and the whirlpool and rapids. Swimming across the river in that "calm" area is very different than trying to swim across the whirlpool and through the rapids.

Thanks for the link JSwim. That crossing sounds a totally different proposition to surviving the rapids.
Still not a rapids swim but this reference, if true, ups the kudos rating. I guess the water temp on the second swim was single figures 'C? I'm not sure of the distance though.

The following article also says that Grenfell was patron of the Webb memorial fund who were behind the production of the Webb memorial statue in Dover:

Enough of my ramblings...
