sigh And they're one of the better science publications out there. I tweeted back at them that there's controversy about her claims, but this is just sad that they're using DN as their anecdotal lede to the story. There are SO many better choices for that approach out there and it wouldn't have taken much effort to find one.

Definitely recycling content to generate page views.
And she probably will never disappear from public consciousness. She did such a great job of marketing herself that the non marathon swim community thinks she's legit. You and I both know all too well how dramatic stories are crack to lazy writers, and lazy writers are pretty much the norm now because they have to be in order to actually eek out a living.
I almost choked...as I remember this article the first cycle!
