There is about 72 hours left to sign up for the BLS lottery. As of now, only 3 relays have signed up. There are 6 spots for relays! Also as of right now, you have about a 50% chance of winning a solo spot. Sign up now!!

if anyone is on the fence about signing up for this, can I just say go for it! It is a very fun event with a great group of people in a fantastic location.

(and I realize I am reducing my own chances of getting in by encouraging you, but this really is a swim I think every open water swimmer who can get to Boston should have a crack at)

We're down to the wire here so I just wanted to post a quick LAST CALL for lottery registrations for this year's Boston Light Swim. We'll be closing the lottery registration system at 1pm on SATURDAY, March 14. (The newsletter had a typo that said Sunday, so just wanted to clarify that we're actually closing the lottery registration on Saturday, 3/14 at 1pm.) We will conduct the random drawing over the weekend and notifications will be sent as soon as possible thereafter.

If you want to be eligible to compete this year, better hop to it as time is running out. Good luck! Here's the link on Ultrasignup: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=32193

    Yesterday's swim was simply amazing

Conditions could not have been better with glass like water for much of the swim and temperatures well above 60F. Fantastically run by the Boston Light crew of @emkhowley and @gregoc as always with their awesome crew of volunteers (including @courtneypaulk). Great to meet @pennypalfrey (who crushed the race), @firebah , and all the other swimmers. Apologies to anyone I met whose forum name I don't know.

    Full results here

I highly encourage anyone who hasn't given this a go yet to enter the lottery for it when it opens on March 1st next year. Great Swim supported by great people in a great location, what more could you ask for?

I was there as a relay swimmer--our team goal: very simple. Beat the time limit. We did that and had tons of fun! In addition, a friend of ours was swimming solo, and we passed him during the race (although he got us back at the end). We were delighted for him that he finished and swam strong.

Now, I'm more motivated than ever to swim it solo!

    My highlights:

--Jumping in and being pleasantly surprised at how good that cool water felt. I was a little concerned since Philly had been heating up and our usual o.w. training venue was getting warmer (although when we started in April, it was on the cool side--high 50s, 60s--so I knew how that felt and it didn't kill me or anything). With temps in the 90s today, I want to go back and jump in again! Now how water temp that would go down for me if I were doing 8 miles in it is something I still need to learn, but getting the taste of the swim that I did now gives me a better idea of how to calibrate training for the winter and be ready to roll when it's time to solo.

--Getting comfortable w/ a motorboat near me--that was my first experience w/ a motorized escort, and after a little adjustment, it began to feel pretty natural. (Our captain was super!)

We weren't concerned with place, which was a good thing b/c we were the last team to finish. We were also one of the most boisterous teams, cheering not only teammates but any solo swimmers who happened to be nearby. Overall, as finishing was our goal, we count it a success!

Great race, great organization! This is a race I'd recommend highly to solo and relay swimmers alike--even though the selfish side of me is thinking, "but wait, that gives you more competition in the lottery!" Still, I think this is definitely a swim worth experiencing!

It was incredibly cool to meet the different swimmers at the dinner and hear about all their amazing accomplishments. And glad to finally meet Greg and Elaine in person--both high energy, positive people!

Finally, getting a chance to meet Penny Palfrey, who is absolutely one of my swimming heroes--so approachable and supportive of swimmers at all levels! I felt the awe that a kid in Little League must feel meeting the superstars of the game--yet also found her very friendly and down-to-earth!

Altogether, an awesome weekend! Congrats to all the finishers, solo and relay!
