I have to travel to the Spokane Washington/ Post Falls Idaho area in May and will go out a little early if there is an open water training opportunity nearby. Is there anyone training in that area that is willing to welcome a Florida swimmer?

...or, if the water is still too cold in May for outdoor swimming, are there any good pool workout groups in the area?

When I'm in northern Idaho (and it has been known to happen) I'm a huge fan of Lake Pend Oreille and Sandpoint. That's probably too far away from where you're looking, but there's a Y in Sandpoint that you could probably use. There's also a small Masters program on the Coeur d'Alene reservation...

  • There appear to be 3 Master's workout groups in Spokane:

The USMS Zone is Inland Northwest -- an area that has many unsung delights in the form of 10-mile lakes. Lake Pend Oreille is terrific later in the summer. I like to swim in Garfield Bay.
