Couldn't find this anywhere else, so thought I'd add it:

Very well written/researched. Although I'm sure the END-Wet folks will question at least one fact in the article.

@DanSimonelli profile in the San Diego Union-Tribune, regarding his upcoming Catalina Channel attempt:

The story of 'The Old Men and the Sea,' six octogenarians who swam across the Catalina Channel:

Anyone know what time Swimonelli ( @DanSimonelli ) is starting?

Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought be down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead..."
1am, apparently.

Are we keeping this thread to positive stories? I don't want to contaminate genuine marathon swimmers with the bullshit, but I wondered about starting a Hall of Press Infamy, since we never made initiated The Golden Lamprey Award.

Looks like Dan is done. I calculate 10:15 based on his Spot Tracker. Impressive!!

So it would appear that age is just a number. David Radcliff, one of the octogenarians on the record setting Catalina relay, came home to Oregon two days later and swam in a long course meet this weekend. He also managed to set a new US masters record in his age group in the 400 freestyle.
I second the nomination to start Hall of Press Infamy thread.

On that note, thanks to Malinak, we've had this posted on the fridge at Colman Pool for a couple of summers:
It's always a bad hair day when you work at a pool.
Maybe this one has already been posted here? This just came up on my FB, despite being from summer 2014: How Water Makes Us Healthier...

Much of this article about rules and the culture of mountain climbing seems applicable to (or at least thought provoking for) marathon swimming:
