As I understand the article, it's a possible link between massive doses of fish oil and pulmonary edema.

The headline would tend to scare people away from taking fish oil which is widely considered to be a beneficial supplement.

@WaterGirl Agreed, editorially misleading headlines don't help. I use 2000mg daily, sub-3000mg recommended max daily dose, only on training days, and only when I get above about 25/30k per week.

I am strictly an open water swimmer. I limit my fish oil for another reason...I don't want to give off any body odor that might attract sharks.

I thought I add this link from the usms.org board where Jim Thornton states that the survey making the connection of fish oil supplements to SIPE did not ask about dosage size. It was his personal anecdote that implied it was large dosage. I personally take 1200mg daily and probably won't stop but as someone who both crews and coaches long distance swimmers I think it's important to be aware there may be a connection. http://forums.usms.org/showthread.php?p=277552#post277552
