Eye sight & sighting
As we age, so does our vision.
I'm sure we all have varying levels of near/far sightedness +/- astigmatism.
One of the things that I have noticed on my super long swims is that my eyesight at extreme distances really tanks, drops, deterioriates, goes to sh**.
I wear contacts when I swim, and regular goggles. The contacts are corrected for distance vision and my astigmatism. I haven't found sources for prescription goggles that are affordable and also correct astigmatism.
I asked my eye doc about it, and his hypothesis is that for the super long swims, my corneas are swelling, affecting my vision. Luckily, my vision isn't so bad when this happens that I can't see the kayak or boat, but I really have trouble sighting.
It makes me just keep my head down, and not get teased by what I can see up ahead....because I can't see up ahead! lol.
I do wonder, though, whether anyone else has experienced this sort of eyesight change throughout super long swims?
