Best stationary swim system

I’m finally getting around to a long-awaited pool/yard remodel. One of my primary objectives is a stationary swimming system. I’m not looking for a “good enough” solution. I want the best. Well, maybe not “the” best (I came across a Scandinavian company with a $200,000 solution, so not that—unless I can scare my kids into taking a 3-year COVID college deferral. “Safety first, kids!”). Here are some particulars:

Realistic: I want something that really feels like swimming. It does’t need to be fast (2-3 mph is plenty), but it needs to consistently move a wide, column of water, not just spew bubbly water in my general direction.

Integrated/retrofit: I don’t want a stand-alone solution. Needs to be built into our existing pool, which is an old-school beast (20’x40’) built in the 60s. We’re tearing out/replacing the gunite, so making mods to shape/depth isn’t a problem.

Thanks for the feedback!

Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought be down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead..."
