Craig is about 3.5 hours into his Tsugaru crossing.
I had the pleasure of meeting Craig at Tampa Bay 2010. He has a pretty impressive resume... Triple Crown, Tampa Bay, MIMS, North Channel, etc. and tends to be pretty quiet about whats in the works.
Pretty decent ocean swimmer for an in-lander!

Go Craig!

Craig is one of the nicest people you can meet, and a great advocate for our sport. And I'm lucky enough to swim with him a few times per week! Keep the cheering coming!

Seconded! ...except for the ice swimming stuff which is kind of mental :)
I've only met Craig once but from what I know of him he achieves great things in a modest and sportsmanlike manner.
    Good luck!
  • Thirded... Paul (my husband) and I met Craig in Manhattan in 2010. Great swimmer and great bloke. GOOOOOOOOO Craig!!!

@ssthomas - I second that! Fastastic swimmer, friend and a fierce competitor in the cold water swimming arena! Cannot wait to get out to CO and swim with you all again!
@chloemccardeldotcom - Still have those ear plugs from Craig? From what I remember when we met at Dover harbor, we split a set that Craig gave us.. Such a small world!

Spoke with May (Craig's wife) aboard his escort boat last night, and he was getting a solid push east, verus north toward Hokkaido. He reached the half-way point around the 8-hour mark yet the swim was called around 6:30PM (Tokyo), 5:30AM (EST) due to a relentless eastern current push. May said he was following Christof Wandratsch of Germany, who left a little earlier than he, and was also attempting the Tsugaru; very awesome to have two great swimmers in the water at the same time! I am not sure what happened to Christof's swim though...

@Foreverswim- Fall is a great time for CO lake swims! Just pop through here after Tahoe! (The rest of you are welcome, too!)

@ssthomas - Oh, I will find time in the schedule for a CO trip this fall, although I've heard Mr. Lenning and the beautiful May might be planning a trip out to western PA for a nice lake swim as well? Only time will tell, however you can plan on me being out before the year is through ;) It's tough to swim in CO though; I can't help but to stare too long at the incredible mountain scenery!

    Great Job Craig!

I think it's incredible that he swam for 12+ hours on Monday, then came back and nailed it on Thursday! That's hard core.
  • @ssthomas - I totally agree!!! Well done Craig, from Paul McQueeney and myself! It just shows what great courage and determination you have to get back in the water and re-attempt so soon after your first go.

@ForeverSwim Ha ha! OMIGOD, I remember being a stress head at manhattan 2010 'cause I couldnt find my ear plugs. Craig was such an angel offering his - I would never forget that. There is nothing like the camaraderie of marathon swimming! Yep, I remember sharing ear plugs in Dover. Paul remembers you too!
