Name changes on documented swims

BridgetBridget New York StateMember

Names change. Has anyone with a documented swim had a subsequent name change, and if so, is it possible to update that, perhaps leaving the original name in parentheses? Thinking ahead. . .

Thank you, Bridget (Not changing Bridget)

I've been Sarah Thomas, then Sarah Vincent, then back to Sarah Thomas. And I never picked up the Willis I "should" be now. I just vote that women have to stop changing their names....

I know that for the Long Swims Database, if you ask Evan nicely, he can update your name so that it matches consistently. Not sure about leaving something in ( ). For other races/events, it would depend on how they have time to handle it. The one race I was doing back then has me listed with both names... I've never thought to ask- I was Sarah Vincent then. It's just part of the history.

I wasn't sure how post-change events would be listed, or if I would have two profiles- and because some swims ask for a sort of resume, or need qualifying swims, I wasn't sure if a new name would make it look like a new swimmer with no history. And of course, the list of other things that would need changing is vast- I JUST got a passport. Professional credentials, etc. But I was married for 20 years, divorced for 12, and my name is increasingly painful . . . so I'm considering a fresh start with a name of my own.

Thanks for your response, Sarah. I appreciate it.

If a person appears in results under different names, their results will "match" to different identities in the database unless I am aware of the different name variations of that person.

Everyone is encouraged to inform me of their name variations, so all their swims are associated with the same identity/profile. You don't even have to ask nicely.

But you are nice and should be asked nicely.
For me, I'll keep you posted. Thanks so much.

Oh sure. First you get to vote and drive, now you want to keep your own name. What is this world coming to?

Actually, @curly, I'm considering a brand new name, just mine. ;) But if you need diaper cream, I am happy to share.

When my wife and I first got married, she knew way more people in the Air Force, which translates to knowing the right people so we could get stationed together. "I don't want some Chief at HQ looking at my name and asking, 'Who the hell is Sonja Tyson?'" For my part, I didn't care. I'd only known her for two months when I asked her to marry me, then we got married two months later. I was just so happy she said yes!

She has joked over the years when people ask her "Why didn't you change your last name?" Her response: "I'm waiting to see if this marriage works out." FWIW, she says that after four kids and almost 30 years married. ;)

We're all just carbon, water, starlight, oxygen and dreams

After 2 and 13 years, I also leave this footnote :)))))) LLOOLL.
You never know when she'll have her own marathon swims.
