Many of our favorite swimmers are represented. Plus it's a vote you can feel good about, even if you vote more then once ;-)

Wow, it's sad to see frauds and cheats in with so many superb swimmers whom I admire & respect. I suppose that goes well with the "vote more than once" ethos.

Well, we all better vote more than once to make sure good prevails over evil. ;-)
This might be a stupid question, but are people saying the WOWSA's awards are set up intentionally so that everyone can vote as many times as they like, or is it more the case that the intention is people can only vote once but the voting system is not very robust and thus open to abuse?
Steve has always been upfront that the primary aim of the wowsa awards is to generate enthusiasm about open water swimming.
Nothing wrong with that aim, in itself. Though it occasionally conflicts with other priorities that people value, such as fairness, or robustness to manipulation, or conceptual coherence of the categories.
Some frustration with the wowsa awards comes simply from misunderstanding the point of them: Generating enthusiasm. If people vote who understand nothing about swimming, that's good, because it means more enthusiasm. If people vote more than once, that's good, because it means they are more enthusiastic.
There are some great swimmers in the wowsa list, so if you choose to participate, vote for them! Multiple times!
The wowsa and MSF Awards can peacefully coexist, as they have very different underlying approaches and philosophies.
I don't think enthusiasm at the expense of truth is good for the sport.
