Santa Barbara Channel swims 2016

The SBCSA is accepting applications for sanctioned marathon swims to, from, around, and between the seven California Channel Islands not-named-Catalina.
Five of these amazing islands -- Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara -- make up Channel Islands National Park. Swimming in a national park is something every marathon swimmer should do before they die, just sayin' !
We have swim routes ranging from 3.6 miles (Santa Rosa / San Miguel inter-island) to 12.2 miles (Anacapa to mainland -- our most popular swim) to huge, unprecedented or nearly-unprecented 30-40-50-60-70 mile swims!
The deadline for early-bird sanction fee discounts is approaching on May 1st. The application process is entirely online for your convenience.
Any questions, please feel free to PM me!

Some of you are tracking the "Old & Cold" relay (subsequently renamed to "Out, Around, & Back" after the addition of Asha and Becky
This is an epic 54-mile swim across some very wild and remote waters. From the west end of Catalina to Santa Barbara Island; then a full circumnavigation of SB Island; then back to Catalina.
The swimmers are:
Dave VM put together a detailed and thoughtful website about the swim - check it out:

They are on the back half now, with a little over 20 miles remaining... go Team!
How the he** do they swim in such a straight line???
I loved reading the website and the little #24HourRelay got a mention. I LOVE , and I can't say it enough how much I enjoy connecting all the dots. In this day and age, making real live connections, in person.. in bathing suit ( costume) is soo sooo very important.
Hey, what just happened? Did they stop the swim?
We're all just carbon, water, starlight, oxygen and dreams
@AnthonyMcCarley on FB is announcing that the boat owner has called off the swim for a fishing charter.

'tis true.
It was a scheduling mistake between old owner, John Pittman, and new owner, Tucker McCombs who scheduled a fishing trip to depart the night of our previously scheduled July 15.
We were trumped.
@AnthonyMcCarley , @DanSimonelli , @VanMou , @Asha , Scott and Becky: Congratulations on what you accomplished!!
"... a scheduling mistake..." It boggles the mind and leaves me stunned.

How can this happen?!? Clearly the new owner of the Outrider doesn't get or support marathon swimming.
Were the swimmers aware before they started that there was a scheduling conflict?
And since the scheduling mistake was between the old and new owners, how much of your fee are you getting refunded?
