Surprised there's no comment about this race a few days ago won by Italian Simone Ruffini in 4:53.10.7. I've been away so haven't seen any tv coverage or write ups, does any one have a link or three?
If you go further back in the SwimSwam vault, there was some coverage of the other Open Water races, as well. SwimVortex had some good summaries of the 10k, also.
I guess I'm old school, but 10 2.5K loops on a closed course doesn't do much for me. I miss the days of throwing up all over my kayaker, finding a "trainer" at a bar in Roberval two days before Lac St Jean, or teaming up with former USA National Team stallion Jay Benner to figure our way around Diamond Head because the turn buoy snapped and our boats broke down. Closed courses and mass drafting in rowing basins are for the birds. Send me over the horizon.

Me neither. At least it was a 2.5k loop, instead of the 1.67k loops that they had in London (granted, only for a 10k)
I once swam a 25k in a 50 meter pool (10X2500m). It was the dumbest thing of all time. I finished in the same spot where the sprinters did. 5+ hours and nothing to show for it except for having to use the ladder to get out of the pool.
